Motorcycle Boots Choosing the Right Type

Talk to any serious motorbike rider and they will tell you that wearing a proper riding boot is as important as all the other motorbike gear such as a helmet, jacket and pants.  Finding the right pair of boots for yourself is important not only for comfort but also safety in the event of an accident.  When choosing the right motorcycle boot you need to consider safety, function and comfort and you need to consider that motorbike boots need to be suitable for riding as well as comfortable to walk around in.  Some of the features of motorbike boots that you should consider before you make a purchase are the material used, flexibility of the boot, the tread or sole of the boot, the style of the boot and what price range you are considering.

Motorcycle boots are available in many different types of materials, from leather to synthetic types of materials.  When choosing a motorbike boot you need to consider that the material should be able to handle the weather conditions you intend to ride in.  Leather boots may look great but are not the best for use constantly in the rain.  Synthetic materials such as Gore-Tex may be a more appropriate choice as this material is excellent in almost all weather conditions.

The flexibility of the boot is an important feature as riding boots need to strong enough to provide protection to the foot but should be flexible enough to be able to easily work the brake and gear shift.  Most boots have a reinforced toe area and strong ankle support which is flexible enough for the rider to walk around when not on the bike.

A boot with a thick rubberised sole is also a good idea as this is important for preventing slips when stopping at traffic lights or when walking in wet weather to and from your bike.  Choose something with a nice deep tread pattern as this will provide some cushioning for the foot and the tread will last longer.

The style of the motorcycle boot needs also to be considered.  Motorbike boots come in many different styles including leather, textile materials and a combination of both.  Many bike riders will recommend that you go for a style that either zips up or laces up rather than slip on boots as these will stay on your feet in an accident.

Price range is also a factor that need to be considered when choosing which motorcycle boot is best for you.  Like most things you will get what you pay for with cheaper models having less features and less safety aspects.  It is wise to spend a  little bit more on a boot that has some extra features which will make the boots last longer and provide the needed foot protection.
